December 28, 2016:

Hiya,

Not a lot of new releases this time of year, but we continue our quest to restock our vinyl stores.  We are pleased to announce that we are now carrying the entire yepROC vinyl LP line. Yep ROC calls itself "the artist-driven label that refuses to be labeled,” and, as such, is hard to categorize.  Some of the artists are Dave Alvin (with and without his brother, Phil), Nick Lowe, Kim Richey, Tift Merritt, the Baseball Project, John Doe, Tony Joe White, the Sadies, Eleni Mandell, Chatham County Line, Eli “Paperboy” Reed, and, among many others,  those masked marvels, America’s rock’n’roll instrumentalists – Los Straitjackets.  Stop by and check out the yepROC bin and the yepROC wall.

As a reminder, will be closing at 3:00 on New Year’s Eve and will be closed on New Year’s Day.  Also, our hours are changing for 2017:  Tues-Sat: 10-6, Sunday 12-5, closed on Mondays.  Hope to see you soon and Have a Happy and Prosperous New Year!

It’s new LP release day here at Juke and we’ve got My Woman by Angel Olson,  No Code by Pearl Jam,  Asie Payton’s Just Do Me Right, REM’s Green, and new ones by the Frightnrs, Gene & Eddie, and Paul Wine Jones.  New on CD this week are titles by the Fleshtones, Chatham County Line and one of the great bands from New Orleans, the Meters.  Funky as hell.

In addition to the new ones, we continue to restock our bins – both LPs and CDs.  Lots of Eccentric Soul restocks.  Of special note on CD this week are several Jimmy Smith titles.  On LP we have one of the greatest blues records ever cut, the self-titled Hound Dog Taylor and the Houserockers.  That record was, in large part, responsible for the successful start of Alligator Records in Chicago, now celebrating 45 years (with a retrospective available on CD).  And, if you like Hound Dog Taylor, I have no doubt you’ll like the new Lil’ Ed and the Blues Imperials, due out in a few weeks.  Also, Lil’ Ed will be appearing in Pittsburgh later this fall…

That’s all for now.  Next week will be flush with new arrivals, so stay tuned.  Thanks.

Hi All,

Had a very special visitor over the weekend here at Juke - Jim Spitznagel.  He was the owner of the original store, Jim's Records, that has morphed over time into Juke records.  That's him the middle of the photo, with Bob on the left and me on the right. He bought a couple of new records from our expanding stock and a few used LPs from the hundreds of used ones we've added in the past week.  Very cool having him in the store, but I couldn't get him to go in the basement.  He left some Jim's Records stuff there (LPs, magazines, posters, etc.) years ago, but more about that later....

Juke Records (RIP Little Walter) is opening in the Bloomfield section of Pittsburgh (located in the same space currently occupied by Soundcat Records, and Paul's CDs before that, and Jim's Records before that). The fine staff at Soundcat is staying on with Juke and we plan on continuing the Soundcat tradition (and Paul's and Jim's). We'll be selling new and used LPs and CDs of rock, pop, alternative, jazz, blues, soul, R&B, funk, folk, international, hip-hop, reggae, experimental, punk, metal, electronic, psych, prog, garage, country, and so on.  In the very near future expect to see a significantly expanded vinyl selection - both new and used - as we are busy ordering new stock!  Our books section will also be enhanced.  So, stop by this site again soon for more information or, better yet, come by the store to see our expanded vinyl section for yourself.   We look forward to seeing you...
